Please read the description! While the video explains almost everything, there are a couple of extra things you should know. ANNOTATIONS COMING SOON! As an alternative to LEDs, I came up with a simple solution to help your standard strands of incandescent holiday lights last much longer and use less electricity. If you place a diode in series with the wire, the amount of electricity going to the lights will be cut in half. While the lights are less bright, they produce a warmer color with this modification. Because the lights are dimmed to roughly 50%, they will last much longer. Colored strands also look very good with this modification. (This video illustrates the effect on a strand of "mini" bulbs, I have not tested C7 or C9 bulbs (see below)) As I said in the video, THIS MODIFICATION IS TO BE DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK! I take no responsibility for any damage that may occur as a result of performing this modification to a string of lights. However, as is the case for any strand of lights, if you were to accidentally touch a bare wire, either a GFI outlet or the fuses in the set should protect you, keyword should. I'm only saying this to illustrate that should something go wrong, it's unlikely anything bad will result. In no way am I suggesting that the modification is guaranteed safe. A few of quirks you may run into: First, the strand of lights I did this to does not have a plug at the other end, therefore I was not able to test another set plugged into the end to see it ...
